The İbn Haldun University Language Village was first held in the summer of 2019. It is a language immersion program built on the principle of speaking English for 24 hours a day. The content and method of the program are unique in Türkiye and implemented only at IHU Language Village.
The program is open to middle school students who have completed at least grade 5 and high school students with an intermediate or above level of English. The program duration is two weeks.
At the end of the program, participants receive a Certificate of Participation along with the results of a final Level Assessment Exam.
IHU Language Village is designed for students to learn English through real-life immersion. Accordingly, participants are expected to prepare for daily life by using English, the language they are learning. Courses are designed to develop the four core skills: reading, listening, writing, and speaking. In addition to formal classes, the program includes workshops, sports activities, excursions, and cultural events, all conducted in English.
The ultimate goal is to create an environment where students can acquire English naturally, without needing to go abroad. In this immersive experience, students not only improve their language skills but also develop social adaptability through peer interaction. Workshops foster creativity and problem-solving skills, while sports activities support both mental and physical well-being. Cultural excursions offer opportunities to use English in real-life guided settings, enhancing confidence and fluency. By the end of the two weeks, participants complete a well-rounded and effective language learning experience.
Before the program begins, students are required to sign a Language Pledge. This document states that participants will use only English for the duration of the program—during lessons, activities, and free time, 24/7. Using another language disrupts the immersive environment and may lead to dismissal from the program. Full compliance with program rules and methods is expected from all participants.
IHU Language Village welcomes communication with parents before, during, and after the program regarding student progress and program matters. However, we expect parents to understand and support the program’s philosophy, goals, and teaching methods.
As a two-way educational initiative, any reluctance or uncooperative behavior from students that hinders the flow of the program will not be tolerated. In such cases, the management reserves the right to dismiss the student from the program.
Parents are kindly asked to inform us of any medical conditions, chronic illnesses, or psychological/ developmental concerns that may affect the student’s experience.
Based on this information, necessary accommodations may be made, or the student’s participation may be reconsidered.
To preserve the immersive experience, students may only communicate with their parents in their native language during designated calling hours. In emergencies, contact must be made through the mentors or program management.
To ensure a productive and enjoyable experience, we ask that you read this guide carefully before arriving. Prepare yourself not only physically but also mentally. Be ready to spend time away from your family/home and take a break from some daily habits, like excessive phone or screen time.
